MIDSUMMER EVE
Here in Scandinavia we celebrate the light or the summer solstice once a year. It is the lightest and therefore longest day of the year. The celebration takes place on a Friday between 20th and 25th of June. We eat pickled herring and fresh potatoes and toast with snaps. Some people raise a massive pole covered in birch leaves and dance and sing around it. The pole is a symbol for fertility, cause this evening is also a celebration of fertility...don“t ask me why.
